Four Great Cake Ideas



We asked one of the state’s best wedding cake bakers — Shara Chickering-Hill of Chickadee Hill Cakes — to tell us about the hot new cake trends. Here are four styles she recommends.

Burlap and lace. Smooth-iced Italian meringue buttercream cake with fondant lace appliqué and bridal buttons, burlap and lace-banded tiers with an accent sugar rose and curvy willow.


Vintage. 1920s-inspired fondant cake with rhinestone trim accents, sugar flowers and a bottom tier adorned with edible wafer-paper feathers

Winery or Barn. Fondant cake with edible sugar flowers and fondant with birch-bark details.


Chalk Art. Completely edible hand-painted chalk-art-inspired fondant cake with a ruffled bottom tier accented with edible gold and printed edible wafer-paper flowers.
