NHMB: How and when did you get into this business?

SS: My story with flowers started in 2006 when my partner (now wife) and I moved to central NH for her job. I had recently graduated from college and left behind my several part time jobs to start over in a new, exciting way. I found a job at a local flower shop. I started at the bottom sweeping the floor, washing dirty flower buckets, etc., but I learned the entire business and worked my way up the ranks. I started that job a bit lost and undecided about my future career path and left that shop as a designer—and I haven’t looked back.

Following this I was hired as the Floral Director for an iconic New Hampshire resort and was soon after honored to receive the Certified Floral Designer (CFD) accreditation from the American Institute of Floral Designers, awarded to those who demonstrate strong technical ability and creativity in floral design.

Which brings me to present! In 2013, I left my corporate resort job to open Ivy and Aster Floral Design. It’s been a few years in business, and I am loving every minute.
