NHMB: How and when did you get into this business?
RH: A dear friend introduced me to floral design as a career after a major life change. I was in school to become a nurse, but a very serious auto accident and subsequent brain surgery, with a three-year recovery process, put an end to that. I had worked in the wedding industry previously as a wedding planner and coordinator, but I never saw myself in the business. Now, I look back and see how happy I am in this industry, and, while I might have been happy as a nurse, I cannot imagine being as happy as I am now doing what I do!
NHMB: What is your favorite wedding floral to design and create?
RH: Cascading bouquets. Without a doubt. Once, a bride asked me to duplicate her mother's and grandmother's bouquets, which cascaded all the way to the bottom of their gowns. She wanted the same except with coral peonies. Oh, was that an absolute joy to create! And she shed tears of joy when I presented it to her. It was a beautiful wedding.
NHMB: What is your favorite flower?
RH: White phalaenopsis orchid. When my two daughters were married, I wore a floral corsage of two white phals in my hair at each wedding. But red peonies are a very close second!Edit Module
