Edgy, dramatic and provocative engagement photos

Engagement photos that push traditional boundaries.

“I will not be just a tourist in the world of images, just watching images passing by which I cannot live in, make love to, possess as permanent sources of joy and ecstasy.”  — Anaïs Nin

Those words from Anaïs Nin are NH photographer Liesl Clark’s mantra — and half of her artistic inspiration for these engagement pictures. The other half — Stanley Kubrick’s cinematic work.

“If Kubrick could have created images that captured Anaïs Nin’s words, they would look like this type of photography,” Liesl says.

She began her career in photography around the same time that Kubrick directed “Eye’s Wide Shut” in 1999 and says, while her work doesn’t have Kubrick’s “dark and frantic dizziness,” she was always attracted to it. She says he explored the subject’s sensuality by inserting additional figures to obscure the view — creating a place for your imagination to go. Images were carefully placed and counterbalanced — spontaneous and posed.

“Everything he did was quietly dramatic and provocative,” she says.
