Marie and I met on a blind date. I flew home for Christmas while serving as a missionary in Bolivia. My visit home was only three brief weeks and our meeting came about while I was having dinner with a friend. During dinner a neighbor popped in and tried to arrange a date. I reluctantly said yes and later tried to break off the meeting since I wanted to spend my short time home with family and friends. Anyway, I went on the date and was instantly happy with my choice as soon as we met. I returned to South America and we e-mailed every day for a year and spoke at least once a month. After returning home we dated for three more years and I finally got her to say “yes.”

We met rock climbing but soon became mountain biking partners. It was clear we had a lot in common, and it was easy to be together. After many rock climbing, mountain biking and Ultimate Frisbee escapades, Chris proposed about a year after we’d met. We married exactly six months later. We wanted to get married outside in the White Mountains or by the sea, and when we saw Jackson Falls we knew we’d found the place. The weather that day, like our wedding itself, couldn’t have been better.

Doug likes to say we “met at a bar” to tease me because mutual friends of ours coordinated our introduction at a small local saloon. I had been divorced for five years at the time and hadn’t dated, or considered dating, at all. Carol, one of the friends, called me a few times prior to that night to see if I’d consider meeting Doug. I was very hesitant, but finally gave in when she called to convince me to give it one hour. We set up the time and place, but Doug didn’t show up until the final five minutes (he was flying in from an out-of-town meeting). Five minutes was all he needed. We had an instant connection and scheduled lunch for the next afternoon. A little more than three years later, we exchanged vows and are now living out our own version of “happily ever after.”

It’s odd we never met, as we both attended the University of New Hampshire, had mutual friends and even lived in the same building! But, for some reason, fate made us wait. Fast forward three years after college, Josh and I saw each other at my work event at a Fisher Cat’s game (Josh came with a friend who was my co-worker), but we were too shy to speak. At this point we lived about 10 minutes from each other on the same street and didn’t know it. A year later we finally met during a night out in Manchester with that same co-worker as he grew up with Josh. The next day, as luck would have it, we both unknowingly asked the friend for each other’s e-mail. We had our first date the next night … and we’ve never been apart since.

We have known each other for about eight years, we met through a dear friend Ryan Williamson. We dated for three years and were engaged for a year and a half. He proposed at a friend’s condo in Steamboat Colorado after a great day of skiing and a romantic dinner.
