Meet the bakers behind Jacques Fine European Pastries. This Pembroke bakery is a legend in the New Hampshire wedding world, drawing clients from all over the East Coast and creating complex cakes and sophisticated pastries that have earned them a boatload of Best of Bride awards over the years. Read on to learn all about these pastry royals.

New Hampshire Magazine's BRIDE: Where are you located and what is your service area?

JACQUES PASTRIES: We are located in Pembroke, NH. We service all of New England!

NHMB: How would you describe your wedding cake style?

JP: Modern, whimsical, and classic

NHMB: What sort of products do you offer?

JP: We offer wedding cakes, French pastries, all-occasion cakes and desserts.

NHMB: Do you have any specific products that you sell that are a unique asset to the bakery? Do you have any products or flavors that are especially popular?

JP: We are well known for our specialty custom birthday cakes, as well as our wedding cakes with specific themes to them, but the most [beloved] product is our buttercream. Customers really like our style of different buttercreams.

NHMB: Do you have any products or flavors that are especially popular?

JP: Our cannolis are very popular, as well as our French-style pastries. Our signature flavors are truffle fudge and raspberry fillings.

NHMB: Who is your ideal client?

JP: We have quite a spread of different clients that range from [age] 5 and up. The children love coming in to pick out their birthday cakes and design them. We have clients that travel two hours just for our cakes. Our pastry shop has something for everyone.

NHMB: How and when did you get into this business?

JP: [Jacques has been] family owned and operated since 1973, and the entire family started in the food industry.

NHMB: What makes yours a uniquely "New Hampshire" bakery?

JP: We are a landmark in NH. People travel from New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine to pick up cakes. We are a specialty shop, and we are still making products from scratch.

NHMB: Of the bakery products you make, which is your favorite to eat?

JP: To be honest with you, I have more than one favorite — but I do like the lemon ginger cake.

NHMB: What's the most memorable wedding cake you've ever made?

JP: We made a hot air balloon cake with the couple inside the basket. It took three people to deliver it to Vermont, and it weighed about 200 pounds, but it was awesome.

NHMB: Do you cater to specific requests, or do you prefer to create cake designs from scratch?

JP: Both. Some customers know exactly what they want, while others want us to use our creativity.

NHMB: If a potential client is interested in working with you, how should they get in touch?

JP: Give us a call or email. Calling on the phone is best, but our email is great as well.
