Vendor Profile: Sorella Flower Company

To help you get to know some of the top-notch photographers, florists, and other vendors working in the New Hampshire wedding scene, we at Bride are implementing a new series of vendor profiles. In each profile, we'll give you a taste of the vendor's style and some examples of their work — from their favorite assignments to their best bouquets.

Meet Hopkinton-based florists Sorella Flower Company. Under the leadership of Hannah Roberts and her sister, Kelly Ashton, this floral studio has been serving Granite State brides since 2010. This is Sorella's first appearance in Bride, but we have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot more of their work soon.

NH MAGAZINE'S BRIDE: Where are you located and what is your service area?

HANNAH ROBERTS: Sorella is located in Hopkinton, NH, and I cover the New England area (mostly Vermont and New Hampshire).

NHMB: Do you offer any special techniques or products?

HR: I can create the bride's wildest desires, such as flower installations with on-site arbor design, garlands, and hanging flower pieces, or more personal pieces — for example, flower crowns.

NHMB: How would you describe your floral-arranging style?

HR: My personal floral style is gardenesque with a sense of whimsy. Nature is my constant inspiration. I especially love using local and in-season florals and letting them shine with simple elegance.

NHMB: Who is your ideal client?

HR: When a client trusts me and is willing to think outside of the box, we can really have some fun!

NHMB: How and when did you get into this business?

HR: Flowers have always been a part of my life. I got my degree in horticulture and from there worked as a landscaper and with several high-end florists, from which I learned different design styles. In 2010, a friend of a friend asked my sister and I to design flowers for her wedding, and Sorella was born. Sorella means “sister” in Italian.

NHMB: What is your favorite wedding floral to design and create?

HR: The bridal bouquet is always the main event for me, but working on a floral installation on the wedding day always gets my heart pumping.

NHMB: What is your favorite flower?

HR: This is always the hardest question to answer. I love the little flowers that have so much beauty, like hellebores, but you cannot go wrong with dahlias!

NHMB: Do you design the floral scheme for your brides from scratch, or do you prefer that they come to you with specific ideas of what they want?

HR: I am very flexible and will do both. I always love when a bride is open to allowing me to help them create and design with the flowers of the season and add some fun and unique touches such as king protea or air plants. That being said, I also like working with a bride who knows what she wants and we can work together to create her vision.

NHMB: What local, New Hampshire elements do you incorporate into your work?

HR: New Hampshire is always my inspiration, the lushness of it all! I grow some of my own flowers, use other local flower farmers or forage for unique greenery. I have been known to use moss, lichen or branches on occasion.
